The Corporate Director of Valencia CF analyses the decision of the European Court of Justice of the European Union and comments on a disciplinary issue.
This Thursday, the EU Court of Justice dismissed the appeal of the European Commission, in relation to the guarantee for a bank loan that the Valencian Institute of Finance (IVF) granted to Valencia CF in 2009, for a value of 75 million euros. The matter has now been definitively closed.
The Corporate Director and Spokesperson of Valencia CF, Javier Solís, spoke to VCF MEDIA to analyse the decision.
How do you assess today's EU Court ruling?
"Today, after more than 8 years, we have received the verdict from the EU Courts, stating that Valencia CF did not receive financial assistance that could be considered to breach EU laws for free competition," he explained.
"In 2016, the EU took the decision that Valencia CF had to return a total of 23 million euros for supposed advantages gained. This emanates from the loan to the VCF Foundation of a total of 75 million euros, with an interest rate of 6.5%.We always understood this as being in line with market values."
"The process has now been concluded. It has lasted a long time, without further actions. We thank the Spanish government and the Generalitat in Valencia for their support during this process, which has concluded satisfactorily and in a very positive way for us."
As opposed to what happened with José Luis Gayà a few months ago, Real Madrid's head coach will not serve a ban, for making a very similar statements. What is Valencia CF's assessment on it?
"Today the decision to not open a disciplinary case against the Real Madrid coach for his comments was announced. With all due respect to the disciplinary bodies, the club have already commented that there are certain moments in which we can't understand the criteria and what makes certain statements different from others.
It's a very difficult job that they do, but on certain occasions I think that they should unify the criteria. If not, then there is an obvious lack of definition -as occurred with our captain José Luis Gayà."
